West Brom Transfers: Baggies Break Record For 33 Goal Brown Ideye

Nigerian becomes Alan Irvine's new number 9.

Having narrowly escaped relegation from the Premier league under the strange managerial control of Pepe Mel last year, West Brom have made a statement of intent this summer with the signing of Nigerian striker Brown Ideye for £9m fromDynamo Kiev. The signing smashes the Baggies' last transfer record of £6m, paid last summer for attacking midfielder Stephane Sessegnon from Sunderland, and ties the 25-year-old to the club for three years, with an option for an extra year. He will wear the number 9 shirt, and bolsters Irvine's attacking options, which were limited to Saido Berahino, Victor Anichebe and Adil Bai before the move was confirmed. The new Baggies boss welcomed the signing of the former Sochaux and Neuchatel Xamax forward - who scored 33 goals in 74 matches for Dyanmo Kiev- with praise of his experience:
€œBrown is a quality striker and I€™m looking forward to working with him. He€™s a strong, quick, powerful player who likes to get in behind defences and has plenty of Champions League and international experience.€
Ideye is the kind of signing West Brom fans should be able to get excited by, particularly if he lives up to his billing, and they should take pleasure in the fact that both the player and his representatives have called it a dream move to a club who showed their commitment to buying him. https://twitter.com/OfficialIdeye/status/490225525961814016 Brown is powerful and fast - a lot like Victor Anichebe - and should link up well both with his compatriot and with attacking midfielder Sessegnon to bring mobility and strength to the Baggies forward line.
