This shows title is a little insight into the pretty miserable nature of the main protagonist, Victor Meldrew. Despite the very comedic tone of One Foot in the Grave, it features Meldrew plodding along through life moaning from one task to the next and his very loyal and long suffering wife having to endure these negative tendencies. Victor Meldrews famous catchphrase I dont Believe it!, was often used in the context of his common misfortunes and this phrase was a way of him expressing his exasperation with his so called miserable circumstances.
