10 Overhyped TV Shows You Massively Regret Watching

Secret Invasion had all the promise in the world... and then people saw it.

Hype really can make or break a TV show.

If there's no interest in something, then people simply won't watch it. Conversely, if a show has very high expectations and doesn't live up to them, then it can be equally as harmful to its reputation.

These 10 examples all suffered that fate, as they promised the world and failed to deliver anything close to it. Whether they were pushed heavily by networks, based on an existing property, featured big stars, or just sounded good on paper, these shows had bucket-loads of potential. Sadly, the end product wasn't worth switching the TV on for.

While some of these series weren't an affront to nature or anything, others made for genuinely awful television. They would have been hated even if they hadn't been all aboard the hype train - the fact that they were just made things even worse.

Luckily, a lot of these shows only lasted one or two seasons, so the damage they caused was fairly limited. Unfortunately for anyone who actually sat down and watched them, that is time they are never getting back.

10. Girlboss

Secret Invasion Bad
Netflix

Launching on Netflix in 2017, Girlboss was a sitcom based on the autobiography of Sophia Amoruso, an American businesswoman credited with popularising the term.

It starred Britt Robertson as a fictionalised version of Sophia navigating university life whilst trying to get her first business off the ground. Ellie Reed and Johnny Simmons played supporting characters whilst guest stars included Breaking Bad’s Dean Norris, comedy legend Norm Macdonald, and drag race impresario RuPaul.

What’s more, the show was created by Kay Cannon, the mind behind the Pitch Perfect film series and a writer for the likes of New Girl and 30 Rock, and Hollywood icon Charlize Theron served as an executive producer.

Now that’s a line-up.

Even with such an impressive team involved and Netflix putting a lot of time and effort into marketing the show, Girlboss failed to find an audience. It promised to present its main character as a positive female icon, a woman making her way in a male-dominated world, but instead, most viewers hated the way Sophia was portrayed, claiming she was too self-absorbed to be likeable.

Girlboss was not picked up for a second season.
