10 Problems With Westworld Nobody Wants To Admit
3. What Was Going On?
Seriously, what happened in this show?
Try to recount the general plot of the show off the top of your head. You can try all you like, but you'll fail miserably. Even over a year later, it's hard to work out what actually went on in Westworld.
Throughout the show, watching it became more about trying desperately to figure out what the hell was going on.
What is the maze? Who is Arnold? What's the deal with Bernard? What's Ford's big new narrative? What's up with Dolores and all her visions? What... you get the idea. There are simply too many questions to count and many of them weren't even answered in a satisfactory way.
There is nothing wrong with mysteries and puzzles, but with Westworld it was all so convoluted it was difficult to get truly invested in the story. Admittedly, it is a cleverly constructed show in many ways and there is a lot of intelligent layering in the mysteries. That's undeniable. However, if one doesn't like such a puzzling approach it'll be impossible to get into Westworld.
By the way, if you haven't watched it yet, binge it. Because, if you have too big a gap between watching each episode or forget anything at all, you're screwed. You'll never know what's happening in Westworld again.
