15 Best British Sitcoms Of All Time

2. Only Fools And Horses

only-foolsBBCOnly Fools and Horses follows the lives of the crafty, but loveable small-time rip-off merchant Derek €˜Delboy€™ Trotter and his easily-led, dimwitted younger brother Rodney as they attempt to secure financial gratification through selling anything that they can get their hands on. Sex dolls filled with explosive gas and luminous yellow paint being amongst the more obscure items Delboy has tried to convert into profit. Delboy€™s natural charm combined with his persuasive tongue makes him quite the absorbing salesman. The South Londoner€™s audacious techniques and attempts to appear sophisticated (randomly misusing French phrases) throughout a pitch, makes him a very alluring character, and his dreadful efforts to casually mesh French dialogue into his speech also subtly emphasises the characters fraudster tendencies marvellously well. A huge bonus the sitcom boasts is its multiple sources of humour. Of course the dynamics that shape the relationship between Delboy and Rodney is an essential part of the show, but a perfectly written group of supporting characters enables other comedic avenues too; such as close friend Trigger€™s certainty that Rodney€™s name is actually Dave.
