30 TV Shows That Will Kick-Ass In 2018

2. Maniac

Birdman Ending Emma Stone
Fox Searchlight

Netflix have attracted some big names in the past, but the talent assembled for Maniac might just be the biggest and most exciting yet.

Emma Stone, who just last year won the Oscar for Best Actress, has the lead role in the series alongside Oscar nominee Jonah Hill, marking a reunion for the Superbad pair. Another Oscar winner, Sally Field, is part of the supporting cast, as is the star of 2017's best TV show Justin Theroux.

Add in hotshot novelist (and Leftovers scribe) Patrick Somerville as writer and True Detective's Cary Fukunaga as director of all episodes, and there's a recipe for something special.

It's not just the talent though, as the premise of the limited series sounds great too: a dark comedy focusing on two patients (Stone and Hill) in a mental institution, and the fantasy worlds that they create inside their minds.
