6 Things Community Needs To Do If They Get Season 6

NBC has yet to renew Community for a sixth season but if/when they do, these changes must happen for it to be a success.

Community has been one of the best, if not continually overlooked, comedies for the past five years. It's not hard to see why: as season one progressed the show became more and more inclusive, zany, and unpredictable. One week might be a show about the cause-and-effect of a chicken finger power struggle while the next could be a full stop-motion animation Christmas episode. The show has always had a rabid fan base with a strong online presence, helping it win several fan choice awards along the way, but even they can't really sum up the series to a friend or relative in a few words. While it started off as a show about a study group at a community college, a non-fan trying to get into the series at any point other than the beginning is often a futile effort, especially during an episode featuring Abed's Dreamatorium or the Darkest Timeline. As has often been the case with Community over the last few seasons, any news of renewal are slow-coming and mostly a guessing game until the official announcement. The show has been downgraded to half seasons for the past couple years and several original stars, like Chevy Chase and Donald Glover, have left. After creator and show-runner Dan Harmon was fired after season three, the show did its best to limp along in the fourth season, and shockingly, Harmon did return to spear-head this current season, it's fifth. Community has often been praised for taking chances and being "meta" while others just love the characters and their interactions as they learn at a college campus. Finding the right balance of jokes, concepts, and heart has been the key to the series as a whole and finding a balance for both fan base camps is proving to be tricky. Although there are still a few more episodes left in season five and all the "Communies" await NBC's word of renewal, there are 6 major things that Community and Harmon need to do if they reach the next step in the ultimate goal of "Six Seasons and a Movie".
