Since appearing for the first time in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger, Peggy Carter's role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has only continued to expand despite the fact she herself is far removed from the modern day events of the franchise's other films and television series. She's turned up in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, a pair of episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and starred in her own One-Shot, which paved the way for her to have a series all to herself in last year's appropriately-named Agent Carter. The critical response to the show's first season was rock solid, more than proving that Peggy is an engaging character in her own right even without Avengers, mad robots, and Inhumans around. The series also introduced a number of characters around her, from fellow SSR agents to dangerous villains, all to varying degrees of success in terms of standing out from a pack anchored by Hayley Atwell's performance.
