Agents Of SHIELD: 8 Ways It Sets Up Marvel's Inhumans

It's all connected.

That Agents of SHIELD. ties into the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a given; it€™s a spin-off from those movies, after all, led by a character who first appeared in Iron Man.

However, these links are generally dictated by the MCU. Season 1 had the major, game-changing tie-in to Captain America: The Winter Solider, which really kick-started the show, and season 2 had a less significant connection to Avengers: Age of Ultron.

But that wasn€™t all in season 2, though, which connected to the MCU in a much greater way than just the mention of the Theta Protocol and the cameos of Peggy and Lady Sif. It was the TV show€™s turn to lead the way, with Kevin Fiege admitting they were €œblazing new ground.€ How are they doing this? By setting up the Inhumans, due for release in 2019 (pushed back from November 2018 thanks to the arrival of a certain web-slinger).

When Marvel announced its huge Phase Three slate, starting with Captain America: Civil War and building up to the climax of Avengers: Infinity War, the Inhumans movie, which will now close out the phase, was the most left-field of the lot. These superhuman beings are from a relatively unknown comic-book, and a further expansion of the wider and weirder exploration that began with Guardians of the Galaxy and will continue with Doctor Strange.

It had been expected that one of those less Earthbound movies might be the one to lay the groundwork for the Inhumans introduction, but instead it is actually Agents of SHIELD that€™s gotten there first, and here€™s how their 2014/15 season sets up a 2019 film€
