Arrow is going back-to-basics in Season 5, but is it enough to save the show?

Arrow Season 5 is just around the corner - and with it, the show's big attempt to get back on target.

While I wouldn't say the show has been outright terrible over the past two seasons, the show has endured a massive decline (though Season 4 was just about a slight improvement on 3 to be fair). It's a far cry from the dark and dangerous series that started the Arrowverse back in 2012, becoming increasingly muddled with magic and mysticism, and bogged down by the soap opera elements of the show.

While many may understandably be ready to give up on the show, the noises ahead of Season 5 have been very positive. The theme of the season is 'legacy', and there's a big onus on recapturing the tone and spirit that made the show such a success in the first place: a troubled protagonist, awesome fight scenes, and a guy with a bow-and-arrow cleaning up Star City.

Following on from Season 4, there's a lot going on that means the show will be a bit different as things start, with plenty of change in Team Arrow. Coupled with what we know of the new year, it means there are plenty of questions to answer as we head into Season 5.

10. What Will Flashpoint Change?

The CW

Flashpoint is going to have a major impact on The Flash, at least through the first couple of episodes as Barry finds himself living in an altered reality of his own making. However, since The Flash exists in the same universe as Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow, Flashpoint is going to spill over into the other shows.

The problem that presents is that the shows need to exist independently of each other, so the paradox cannot have a huge impact upon Arrow, but does need to have some because of the shared universe.

There've been conflicting reports on how much it'll affect things, whether it'll be minor or major, and it's expected to hit Diggle the hardest (though quite how is not clear). While there's plenty specific to Arrow going on, it'll be very interesting to see just how Flashpoint plays out here as well.
