With Brooklyn Nine-Nine's recent scare of being canceled just to be saved the next day, popularity for the show has rarely felt at a higher point. It comes down to the wonderful array of characters created by writers Dan Goor and Michael Schur and the personalities brought to life by an excellent cast. Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) is the main protagonist and the majority of the stories told in the series circulate around his life and actions.
That said, what makes the character of Peralta as good as he is is the ability to bounce off the other supporting actors. One of those is Terry (played by Terry Crews) who is very close to Peralta, often acting similar to a father figure to him. He is a gentle giant of a father who can often be seen managing the other detectives as if they are his children also.
