Community Season 3 Returns: Here's What We Can Expect

After an epic trailer was revealed last week, here’s what we can expect from the shows triumphant return...

We interrupt your death metal to bring you some heavy news. Season 3 of €˜Community€™ returns to its old timeslot this Thursday on NBC after being pulled from the schedule to make way for new 30 Rock. Tina Fey€™s much loved sitcom went on to prove that the 8pm timeslot is doomed to receive low ratings when competing with shows to please the masses such as €˜American Idol€™ and €˜The Big Bang Theory.€™ Despite the ratings, €˜Community€™ is one of the most talked about shows on the internet, often described as the spiritual successor of arguably the best cancelled show of all time €˜Arrested Development€™. Since it€™s last episode, €˜Regional Holiday Music€™ aired, Dan Harmon and the cast have been slowly revealing details of the remaining 12 episodes to tease the devoted fans. March 3rd saw the cast and showrunners reveal a Chang-load of spoilers at TV convention PaleyFest and after an epic trailer was revealed last week, here€™s what we can expect from the shows triumphant return.

€˜And we€™re gona€™ sleep together!€™

Dan Harmon€™s determination to get everyone to hook up will continue. The opening musical number of season 3 foreshadowed that Annie and Jeff will finally sleep together, they share a kiss in €˜Remedial Chaos Theory€™, however that timeline is lost forever now. Details revealed at PaleyFest hinted at Annie and Abed hooking up again, maybe Abed€™s Han Solo will return. Elsewhere Britta and Troy shared some long hugs this season, despite Troy still thinking that Britta€™s the worst. It€™s only a matter of time before they get together.

Blanket Fort Wars

The show attempts its second two-part episode in the form of an epic pillow fight. Troy and Abed become divided during an attempt to make the biggest ever blanket fort and pit their two armies against each other. The trailer released last week teased us with some of the battle sequences. How amazing does that giant pillow man look!?! Certain to be a fan favourite.

Someone will Die!

Joel McHale revealed last month that a character will die, and as well as that said character is €˜someone you see a lot. And he dies in the mid-afternoon.€™ This sent the fans crazy with speculation, including a theory that the fact it happens in mid-afternoon, or 4.20pm, means it could be Star-Burns doing something stupid whilst he€™s high (an overdose would be too unrealistic, even for this show). Another popular choice is Leonard Briggs, but that€™s just down to ageism. Then again the actor who plays him, Richard Erdman, reaches 87 this year, it would be good to see him leave the show on his own terms. Maybe he chokes to death reviewing a frozen pizza. Other popular choices are Fat Neil, Magnitude (POP POP) and Annie€™s Boobs.

Vice-Dean Laybourne returns for Troy€™s soul

John Goodman will guest star for at least two more episodes to persuade Troy to join the league of guys who fix air conditioners. This time sporting a goatee. Let€™s hope black Hitler also makes a return. John Hodgman is also set to make a guest appearance, as well as Breaking Bad€™s Giancarlo Esposito as Gilbert, former assistant of Pierce€™s father. I can€™t wait to see Gus being funny.

Concept Heavy

€˜Community€™ continues it€™s tradition of concept episodes with the two most anticipated being a €˜Law & Order€™ themed episode, as well as an entire episode set with Annie and Abed in the Dreamatorium. The €˜Law & Order€™ episode, titled €˜Basic Lupine Urology€™ features the group investigating a science project that was sabotaged. Little is known of the Dreamatorium episode, which was announced by Harmon at PaleyFest, but the trailer reveals Troy transforming into Abed. Harmon also teased an episode spent entirely with the group playing a video game.

The Origins of Dean Dangerous?

Dean Pelton (Oscar Winning screenwriter Jim Rash) has the least amount of backstory than the other main cast members. Since joining the main cast he€™s proved he can carry an entire episode, this was shown in €˜Documentary Filmmaking (REDUX)€™. This episode featured a picture of the Dean€™s yearbook picture, sporting a glam-rock head of hair. The closing moments of €˜Regional Holiday Music€™ saw Abed watching the €˜Inspector Spacetime€™ holiday special, which featured the Dean (I€™m 90% sure) as the lead singer of the terrible hologram band. The show has a rich history of foreshadowing, which leads me to believe we€™ll be learning more and more about Craig Pelton€™s early life. Hopefully not his tour of restrooms and truck stops though, €˜Those aren€™t thumbs€™.

A Fitting Finale

It was recently announced Rob Corddry would be returning in the finale as Alan Connor, the lawyer responsible for exposing Jeff€™s phony degree. This raised suspicion that Alan will finally get what€™s coming to him for backstabbing Jeff bringing the story full circle. It€™s hard to be mad at Alan though, his €˜douchey€™ actions inadvertently led to Jeff meeting the study group, like the gunner in the Star Destroyer at the beginning of €˜Star Wars€™, he kick started it all. Dan Harmon confirmed at the Paleyfest panel that the finale was written in mind to act not only as a series finale but a show finale as well, as to not leave fans dangling in the event a fourth season wasn€™t ordered. However with the fandom raging on the internet and show being even closer to syndication it€™s getting more and more likely that we will see our favourite study group return this fall.

More Chang-tongue

It€™s coming. Community returns Thursday night on NBC with €˜Urban Matrimony and the Sandwich Arts€™.
