CW's Wonder Woman TV Show Is Shelved

adrianne-palicki-wonder-woman-set(1) It looks like a new Wonder Woman TV show won't be gracing our screens anytime soon. The CW has passed on Amazon, the new pilot that focused on Diana of Themyscira, the woman destined to become Wonder Woman. The series will not be joining NBC€™s new shows this year. The project, which had come under fierce scrutiny in the last few weeks, had several issues that just couldn't be worked out in time. Wonder Woman's costume had been changed three times, last minute changes to the script had caused delays and fans weren't sure if Adrianne Palicki was the best choice for the Amazonian princess. In fact, it's thought the script was the main cause of concern, as early drafts indicated that Wonder Woman's super powers would be drastically toned down. The series would also focus on Diana's journey and her acceptance of her destiny, much in the same way as Smallville, but it was believed to be much more dramatic. With DC's upcoming JLA movie, the last thing audiences needed was a vulnerable Wonder Woman. Taking away so much from the original canon would have surely annoyed long time fans and only confuse new fans. NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt had this to say about the decision to pass on Amazon.
€œI hate to disappoint anybody. I know there are legions of fans of the original show and I don€™t know if it€™s cursed or what. I just have this one experience. They made a really fine pilot and Adrianne Palicki did a fantastic job. You look at what you have, what you need, and it just didn't seem to fit in with what we were doing. We did what was best for the schedule, it does give one pause. You€™re almost damned if you do and damned if you don€™t. It€™s tricky.€
Looks like it's back to the drawing board for Warner Bros. Will they ever top the cult classic live TV show from the 70's? Will DC move forward with plans for their rumoured standalone Wonder Woman movie? For now, it appears as if we're just going to have to wait and see. Amazon is being shopped around to other networks with Netflix reportedly showing signs of interest - the pilot even appeared momentarily on their website. Maybe it's not the worst thing that could happen anyway. DC will get one shot at rebooting Wonder Woman, they should take as much time as they need. Source: IGN
