Doctor Who Series 1 Cast: Where Are They Now?

They brought Doctor Who back with a bang, but what have they been up to since?

The date is 26 March 2005. After a nine-year absence from TV, Doctor Who comes roaring back to life with a new showrunner, new opening titles, and perhaps most importantly of all, a new cast.

This wasn't the '60s or the '80s anymore – Doctor Who needed new faces for a new generation, a generation that worked in shops, drank at the pub with their mates, and ate an obscene amount of chips.

Seriously, what was Russell's obsession with chips back in the day?

Whether they were a series regular or a one-off support, these actors all helped make that first revival series a success, and in doing so, secured a TV legacy that is still going today. But what about their own personal legacies? What have they been up to in the almost two decades (yikes) since?

Some of the stars of Series 1 would go on to become titans of the industry, not just at home, but overseas too. Others would enjoy more moderate success, while some faded away quietly, or even controversially.

Whatever the case, they've all secured their spots in the Doctor Who history books.

Without the hard work of dedicated Doctor-watcher Clive Finch, Rose Tyler would've never unlocked the secret of the mysterious man who saved her from the Autons, she wouldn't have joined his intergalactic escapades, and there's a very good chance none of us would be here.

And what was his reward? Getting killed off by a mannequin. Oh dear.

Clive was played by Mark Benton, and the first episode of the revival was his one and only Doctor Who credit. Prior to this, Benton was a regular on British TV, and that hasn't changed since his run-in with the plastic menace.

Benton has been a series regular on soap opera Waterloo Road and detective drama Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators, while also bagging a small role in the critically-acclaimed 2015 biopic Eddie the Eagle.

In 2013, he was a contestant on the eleventh series of Strictly Come Dancing, where he lasted for ten weeks! Maybe Clive could've waltzed away from the Autons' gunfire?

Like a lot of Doctor Who actors, he also returned to play his character in several Big Finish audio dramas, beginning in 2019.
