Every American Horror Story Season Ranked From Worst To Best

8. 1984

The latest season of the show was significant, in that it was the first to feature neither Evan Peters or Sarah Paulson, two of the biggest stars from the previous eight years. While the series survived when Jessica Lange left after Freak Show, it seemed to be hit harder by the loss of its two strongest players.

The cast was not the only thing that lacked in 1984. With just nine episodes to its name, it is the shortest season to date, and even some of these feel like filler. The first three or four episodes are all very similar, and almost forgettable, as the show routinely follows the formula and tropes of a standard 80s horror movie.

As ghosts that are unable to leave Camp Redwood, the show essentially just rehashes the premise of Murder House, in such a slow season that seemed to flip flop between several different storylines, none really able to grab the viewer as the show has been able to in the past.

This final point really doesn't have the biggest impact on the season as a whole, but where the opening credits in the past have set the tone for the season as something creepy and almost disturbing, 1984's aerobics themed opening really missed the mark.
