9. Blade: The Series

Following on from Blade Trinity, it was largely assumed that the franchise was now dead in the water. And while that was the case for the movie side of things, it did get a second life on TV.

Created by David S. Goyer (who wrote all three Blade movies) and Geoff Johns, the series followed on chronologically from the movies, with Wesley Snipes replaced in the title role by Kirk Jones, aka Sticky Fingaz. It sees Blade team-up with a revenge-driven woman, Krista Starr (Jill Wagner) to take down the vampiric House of Chthon.

Blade takes a backseat for much of the series, although we do also get to dive into his backstory as the show goes on, including his meeting with Whistler. Jones doesn't live-up to Snipes' performance, which isn't much of a surprise, and the series features some awful writing and dialogue. And yet there are some fun action scenes and plenty of violence and gore, meaning it keeps some of the Blade appeal.

Although it was a big ratings success for the still fledgling Spike TV, the series proved too costly for them to keep on making, meaning the show ended after just one 13-episode season, and without a real conclusion.
