Game Of Thrones: 18 Most Outrageous Moments So Far

Death, rape, death, weddings, death, and dragons. Oh and also death.

Like Valyrian steel being forged with spells, Game of Thrones, since its debut in 2011, has found its own magic to forge a reputation as one of the best shows on TV, cementing its place at the top of this so-called golden age of television alongside Breaking Bad.

The writing, acting, and directing are all first-class, but what sets it apart from a lot of other shows is just how far it’s willing to go. There’s almost nothing off limits, no character it won’t kill, no one you can really trust, and the scale and spectacle is astonishing for a TV series.

It has introduced us to a huge number of characters, but then, almost exactly around the time you find the one you like best, they’ll be brutally murdered with unflinching detail. There’s been death, war, dragons, and White Walkers. Just when you think that the series has reached its peak, in terms of shock value, it goes right ahead and blows your mind (or pops your head).

As we bide our time waiting for season 6 to come around, desperately analysing grainy photographs to see if you-know-who is on set, and haircuts are becoming spoilers, here’s a look at the most outrageous moments from this most outrageous of shows.

18. Bran's Fall

The first episode introduced us to the world of Westeros through the eyes of the Starks. It wasn’t immediately clear just how brutal and twisted the show would be, or what exactly to expect from it.

Then we see little Bran Stark innocently climbing around the walls of Winterfell, and what should he stumble on but Cersei Lannister, wife of King Robert, having sex with her twin brother Jaime, the Kingslayer. And then Jaime pushes Bran from the tower, almost killing him in the process.

Incest and attempted child-murder in the very first episode. Welcome to Game of Thrones.
