Game Of Thrones & American Horror Story Lead 2013 Emmy Nominations

Their streaming series House of Cards just received 9 nominations including one for best drama series, marking the first time that an online series has achieved the same recognition as the best of television. Stars Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright both received acting noms, and although Netflix€™s fourth season of Arrested Development didn€™t pick-up a best comedy nod, its star, Jason Bateman, did. The FX supernatural thriller American Horror Story: Asylum scored the most nominations with 17 although it was shut out of the best drama race. Game of Thrones followed behind with 16 while Saturday Night Live and Steven Soderbergh€™s Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra both clocked 15 each. Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, who headed up Candelabra are both in the acting race. House of Cards and Game Of Thrones also lead a very competitive pack of best drama series this year, a list that includes Downton Abbey, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and last year€™s winner, Homeland. On the comedy front, the best series nominees were The Big Bang Theory, Girls, Louie, Modern Family, Veep and the final season of 30 Rock. It€™s interesting€”but not surprising€”to note that another long running comedy series, The Office, finished its run this year and was largely shut out of the awards, minus a writing nod for Gary Daniels on the finale. Elsewhere on the list, it was good to see Elisabeth Moss pulling two nominations, one for her continuing role on Mad Men and one for her headlining work in the outstanding BBC miniseries Top of the Lake. Betty White even got a nom this year, for best reality show host and Jeff Daniels joins the actor€™s race for The Newsroom. The Emmy Awards Ceremony will air Sept. 22 on CBS. You can find the full list of nominations below, and sound off in the comments section below on what you think. Who do you see coming out on top?
