Game of Thrones may be over for another season and we may have another painfully long wait ahead of us until Season 7, but for now we still have plenty to discuss. Overall, Season 6 was one of the best of the series, despite early concerns that it would suffer without any book material to rely on. The show managed to deliver some of its greatest moments, some inspired by book events and some of its own creation.

Since the show has ventured past George R.R. Martin’s source material for the most part, Season 6 offered plenty of surprises for fans, some of which made them cheer and some which made them cry. There were plenty of deaths as per usual, some resurrections, and some welcome returns. New things were learned, theories were confirmed and discredited, and the battles were beyond what we thought possible for a television show.

Indeed, there were epic moments, perhaps more than any other season. There were, of course, still the occasional roll-the-eye moments (Arya won’t appear on this list often), but the good was too good to ignore. So before we look ahead to what Season 7 has in store, let’s look back on the most epic moments of Game of Thrones Season 6.

25. Melisandre Shows Her True Self

As the season begins, Melisandre is in a pretty bad place. The man she proclaimed to be the Lord's chosen king died in battle after she convinced him it was a good idea to burn his daughter. Add to that, the next runner-up on her king-to-be list was just murdered by his own men. Needless to say, she's having a crisis of faith.

Her reveal that she's not in reality a beautiful woman, but in fact a decrepit old woman is a massive moment for her character. It totally changes our perception of The Red Woman. She proudly showed off her perfect body on numerous occasions but we now know, deep down, she always knew it was a sham. We see that she's beginning to question whether or not the whole thing was a sham. Melisandre has always been a character shrouded in mystery but this offers some new insight and changes our perception of her. It's a powerful moment and the first real shocker of the season.
