9. The Music

Last week was a masterclass in direction from Miguel Sapochnik, and he does great work again here. However, more notable than his direction was the music, which comes from Ramin Djawadi.

The music on the show has often been a very good part of the background, but Rains of Castamere is the only other example I can think of where it's been this crucial to help building up to a particular scene.

The scene in question is the build to the wildfire explosion, and the music is called Light of the Seven. It starts with some sorrowful piano, and rises and falls throughout depending on the pace of the scene, building with ominous strings and organs to create something that conveys tension, madness, fear, sadness, and more.

The rest of the music throughout the episode continued to be great - the stuff at the Tower of Joy was also a highlight - and showcases just how much there is to an episode beyond what you're seeing, and it was the perfect accompaniment to the visual splendour.
