Game Of Thrones Season 6: Predicting 12 Important Character Journeys

The King's going down, and so is The Wall.

Wall Game of Thrones
HBO
Speculating on Game Of Thrones is utterly limitless. You could suggest any random character, at any bizarre location, with an enormous amount of potential reasons and still end up with a plot that sounds intriguing to watch. That's how engrossing George R.R. Martin's world is. His next book installment has been infamously delayed once again, but that won't halt the HBO juggernaught that is set to smash its way onto our TV screens in April, with the obligatory comments from the likes of Emilia Clarke suggesting it is set to provide some of the 'biggest moments on TV ever'. You know what? I believe her. Season 5 reached new heights for Thrones, with the cinematic Hardhome episode looking like something cut straight from a blockbuster film. Season 6 has a huge task on its hands to top it, and for that reason, I think the pace will really start to pick up over the 2016 run, with some unbelievable moments in store. Characters love a good journey in the show, whether they're literally travelling from one region to another or transitioning from sword-fodder to becoming a genuine players of the game. Here's a few predictions for some of the show's most integral characters, including where they may end up once the season draws to a close...

12. Sam

Sam Gilly Game Of Thrones
HBO
Let's start with the biggest literal journey facing a character ahead of Season 6. Sam Tarly is finally leaving the Wall, bound for Oldtown where he will train to become a maester. If you actually check one of the Westeros maps you'll realise that he's not just trundling along the road, he's heading from the northernmost part of the known continent, to the south western tip. It's estimated that Westeros itself is roughly the length of South America. That's an immense journey for Sam, Gilly and her baby to take via cart and ship. I think they could have a 'sleeper' season this time around, akin to Brienne's last year. Their progress will be updated every so often, but I don't think their story will really be developed until they begin to approach their destination. They're passing by Sam's old home, Horn Hill, and that means his father Randyll Tarly will come out to play. Sam will be in a perilous situation, but he's grown in bravery, courage and responsibility at the Wall. He'll pull through to make it to the Citadel.
