Game Of Thrones Season 7 Trailer Hints At Cersei's Icy Allegiance

Is she about to welcome Winter as an ally?

It might be a little while until the seventh and so far shortest season of Game Of Thrones arrives on screens but we've finally got a first teaser to get over-excited about.

The short Long Walk teaser was just unveiled by HBO with an odd soundtrack by Brit Indie legends James of "Sit Down". A nice nod to the fact that this whole thing is about a very uncomfortable chair.

Almost inevitably there's not a lot of plot in there, with atmosphere the order of the day, but it seems to be suggesting that Cersei, Danaerys and Jon Snow are the key claimants to the Iron Throne...

But there might be more to it just that.

The end of the teaser in particular is interesting because of the edit that takes Cersei's cold, visible breath to the super close up of the Night's King's piercing iris. Narratively speaking, that couldn't speak more to an alliance between those two characters if it tried.

When the sixth season ended and Cersei's had killed off most of her allies as her enemies grew their forces, it looked like her position would become perilous very quickly, but what if she sells her soul to the devil to win?

What if the key to Cersei keeping the Throne is her making an ally of the icy zombies? It sounds far-fetched somewhat but it would suit her "do anything" mentality.

All that really remains unforeseeable is how that allegiance could be handled logistically. She's a strong woman but quite what she offers to an undead army is another question entirely. At this stage she'd have to somehow own a dragon to prick their interest (so they had a means of defeating Dany's). Still, it's an intriguing idea and the choice of song certainly suggests the plan is for someone to make a deal to sit down next to power.

So what else? Does this confirm that Dany and Jon will actually be at war despite being related?

The trailer is also of note for the first look at Dany's own throne room, which is a nice new addition.

Let's just hope the full first trailer follows soon. Waiting for Winter to come has got too much to take.
