Game Of Thrones Season 8: Overanalysing The 54-Second Teaser Trailer

Dragonglass Wall

The Wall has been brought crashing down, but could another rise in its place? That's what the trailer seems to show happening, as fire and ice collide and what looks like a dragonglass wall is formed in the process.

It's believed that dragon fire is key to the forging of obsidian, which would certainly help with making the vast quantities of it on display here (although there's still the stores from Dragonstone too).

The more likely meaning of this is simply that the dragonglass is what will help stop the White Walkers, but forming some sort of defence using the material (obviously not on the same scale as the actual Wall), since it's so deadly to the touch, wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Battle At The Trident

The location of this clash of ice and fire is also extremely intriguing, because we can clearly see that it's taking place at the Trident. And since they've chosen the Painted Table for the teaser, that can't be an accident or coincidence - especially not with how important the Trident actually is.

Most recently, the Trident was the setting for the final clash during Robert's Rebellion, where Robert Baratheon slew Rhaegar Targaryen by crushing him with his warhammer.

This sent the rubies of Rhaegar's breastplate tumbling into the Red Fork - giving it the name Ruby Fork - which itself connects to a fan theory. Six of Rhaegar's rubies have been found, and it's said that they are waiting for the seventh. This links to the Prince That Was Promised prophecy, which has to come from the line of Aerys and Rhaella. Rhaegar, Viserys, Daenerys; Aegon, Rhaenys; Rhaego. The seventh, then, would be Jon Snow, aka Aegon Targaryen, the Prince That Was Promised.

There's even more historical significance and symbolism to the place than just Rhaegar though. The Trident is also a key location in Aegon I Targaryen's conquest of Westeros. Harrenhall lies just south of the river, which Aegon burned with Balerion, and then went on to name Edmyn Tully Lord of the Trident, while also accepting the surrender of a number of other river lords.

Even bigger, during the War of Conquest, was that this is the point King Torrhen Stark, the last King in the North before Robb Stark, marched his army to. Seeing the Targaryen army much bigger than his, he sent his maester to negotiate a peace, before crossing the Trident and kneeling to Aegon. Just to strengthen the tie between this teaser and Aegon, the Painted Table was originally his.

A King in the North kneeling to a Targaryen. A person who believed himself the Prince That Was Promised engaged in a battle for Westeros. A place Daenerys herself, in the books, has had dreams of. Dreams where she saw the Usurper's host "armoured all in ice" and "she bathed them in dragonfire and they melted away like dew and turned the Trident into a torrent."

Game of Thrones loves to have history repeating itself and things coming full circle, and the sheer amount of connections to be made here make this a perfect choice for the final ever battle.
