In this Darwinist heaven it is very much kill or be killed unless belonging to the right faction with the right amount of coin means that you can afford for others to do the killing on your behalf. Westeros and the lands beyond are inundated with so much violence that people have been forced to train themselves to become better, more efficient killing machines. In a land where virtually nobody can be trusted and friends are hard to come by, being skilled in combat can be more valuable than a Dire Wolf€™s weight in gold. Centuries of war, nasties from the North and Dragons mean not only that the history of the Seven Kingdoms is jam-packed with legendary warriors but also that different regions in George R. R. Martin€™s fantasy land have developed different styles to allow them to thrive in combat (Darwin rears his head again!). In HBO€™s show we have encountered an inordinate amount of warriors who we would instantly hand our lunch money over to were we to encounter them in real life.
