Arriving on our screens way back in 2005, How I Met Your Mother became a sitcom staple over the course of nine years and 208 episodes. And while the show may have lost its way towards the end, one character was true to the very last: Marshall Eriksen.
Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) may have been the centre of the series' narrative, and Neil Patrick Harris' Barney Stinson its breakout comedic character, but Marshall, played perfectly by Jason Segel, was the real beating heart of the show. While Ted was moving from relationship to relationship, and Barney celebrated conquest after conquest, it was Marshall and Lily's romance that showed the genuine side of love.
On top of that he was hilarious, often delivering the show's best lines, and stole a number of its best moments, from shaving his head on his wedding day to the many, many slaps. Segel's gone on to have a strong career post-HIMYM, but Marshall remains one of his greatest roles. Let's see if you're a Marshmallow expert, or if you'll be lawyered.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
