There are a few new players in town this year, each with their connection to (and problems with) Jessica. We spend a little time with them all over the first five episodes, but none have quite been able to make their mark fully just yet.

Terry Chen's Pryce Chang, seen in the trailers getting his ass kicked by Jessica, is a rival P.I. - albeit a far more reputable, high-class one. He hates that Jessica is taking business away from him, and tries to make moves against her, but there's not a great deal to his character beyond that just yet.

J.R. Ramirez (Arrow, Power) fares better. As Oscar, the new superintendent in Jessica's building, he's another thorn in her side, but a much more sympathetic one. Over the course of five episodes they have the beginnings of an interesting dynamic, and Ramirez brings with him a lot of charisma that makes his character easily likeable.

Oscar nominee Janet McTeer is the biggest new addition, playing a character who has "an enormous impact on Jessica's life." She's really just starting to come into things as we get towards the end of this opening run, but brings an added dynamism to the show that it really needs.
