Marvel's Daredevil Season 3: What Does The Ending Really Mean?

10. A Deal With The Devil

Daredevil Season 3
Netflix

One of the most shocking moments in the finale comes not from a death or a jaw-dropping revelation, but instead an agreement: Matt Murdock shakes hands with Wilson Fisk; the Devil making a deal with the devil.

Given how their rivalry has been one of epic, devastating proportions, it's a hell of a way to end things, and should mean that Fisk takes a backseat yet again in Season 4 (should it happen). However, it also ensures a way to keep Vincent D'Onofrio around, which killing him off obviously wouldn't have done (bar flashbacks/visions).

Should something happen to Vanessa, or indeed Foggy and Karen, then their temporary truce could be null and void, while Fisk could attempt to regain some influence even from inside prison. It's a very conscious choice to keep him alive, not only for Matt's soul, but for having the Kingpin option on the table, especially given he's only just received the moniker.
