Ranking All The Jokers: From Worst To Best
3. Jack Nicholson - Batman (1989)

What can be said about Jack Nicholson's Joker that already hasn't? He and Tim Burton brought the character strutting into the mainstream, and though aspects of Burton's vision (the over-literal make-up and use of Prince) may seem a little cringe-worthy today, there's no doubting the physicality and ferocious intensity of Nicholson's work.
As excellent as Michael Keaton was in the title role, Nicholson arguably wrestles the Best of Show honours away from him, emphasising the violent unpredictability of the character, something Burton's goofy directorial affectations absolutely couldn't detract from.
He may no longer hold the mantle of the best screen Joker, but it's still a legendary performance any way you cut it.
