Riverdale Season 3: 3 Ups & 5 Downs From 'Jawbreaker'

2. Mamma Alice: Here We Go Again

Riverdale Betty Alice Cooper
The CW

Alice Cooper may be one of the most charismatic and engaging characters on Riverdale, but make no mistake about it, she's also the most infuriating. This was, of course, on full display this week as Betty attempted to make her see that The Farm was brainwashing her.

While Riverdale's own Nancy Drew may have gone a little too far in her attempts to get through to her mother, all it did was present us with more of the same. Every plea, every statement and every action Betty put forward was met with the same emotionless spiel about how The Farm was helping her and, in a bid to prove just that, Alice decided to burn her family photographs. Yes, because giving away her daughter's college money and selling their home wasn't convincing enough. Seriously, how many times do we have to go through this?

It's obvious that the writers are trying to make a point of how far gone Alice is through her whacky behaviour, but the problem is that, at this point, we've come to expect it from her. The character is so consistently inconsistent that her actions are no longer shocking - they're highly problematic.

There is no justification for her actions whatsoever and these single-line responses just aren't good enough anymore.
