SOURCE CODE Becomes Weekly Sci-Fi TV Show

Small screen version will follow "three former federal agents who are part of a top-secret program [and] they’ll use Source Code technology to jump into the consciousness of people involved in tragic events" and it's unlikely to have any association with the film or anyone who was involved making it.

Well this is a funny thing but an idea I actually wholeheartedly support. THR reveals that CBS has picked up a pitch from ABC to produce a weekly science fiction show based on and titled Source Code, the Duncan Jones directed and Jake Gyllenhaal led film that opened earlier this summer. Why do I call this a 'funny thing' above? Well because Source Code to me felt like a second rate Quantum Leap with a concept that should really have been a t.v. show to begin with. Not only that but if anyone with the power is listening it would also work really was as a Broken Sword come Uncharted like video game if someone wants to get on that hybrid. Source Code was an early summer hit and grossed almost $120 million worldwide and surprised many with how well audiences took to the high-concept sci-fi film. For the small screen version the show will follow "three former federal agents who are part of a top-secret program they€™ll use Source Code technology to jump into the consciousness of people involved in tragic events.€ Not a bad concept at all. Mark Gordon (Grey's Anatomy, Criminal Minds) is producing with Lie To Me and sometimes Lost writer Steve Maeda scripting. Director Jones, screenwriter Ben Ripley and actor Jake Gyllenhaal are obviously unlikely to be involved and I betcha for at least two if not three of those guys they are waking up to this news today for the first time themselves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkTrG-gpIzE P.S. - What is with this trend of movies becoming t.v. shows? We've got Anger Management, The Firm, The Transporter And The Lincoln Lawyer all coming to the small screen in the near future. Has t.v. lost it's originality too?
