Supergirl: 6 Ups And 4 Downs From The Pilot
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's SuperGIRL!
After months of waiting, and having the pilot episode leak online, CBS' entry into the superhero genre, Supergirl, is finally here. Everything about this show screams The CW, so much so that it's hard to believe it isn't actually a stablemate of Arrow and, more notably, The Flash, which it shares a lot in common with. Of course, this does have much of the same team behind it, including Greg Berlanti, and it should appeal to a similar set of fans. However, there's much more to Supergirl than just being a female-led version of The Flash. Although this is just the first episode, it already shows signs of being fun, fast, and confident (ok, it's still sounding a lot like The Flash). Melissa Benoist is the girl tasked with being super, or Kara Danvers as she's otherwise known, and she is what this series will live or die on. So far, she comes across as extremely likable, and perfectly capable of handling the dual roles of being a regular girl and a superhero. We also met the rest of the main players, including Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott, and Calista Lockhart as Cat Grant. While there was a lot to like in this debut, which was pretty self-assured and solid as pilot episodes go, it wasn't perfect, though hopefully it can iron out those mistakes as the show progresses.
