The Walking Dead Season 9: 5 Ups & 1 Down From 'What Comes After'

Last week's episode of The Walking Dead saw Rick Grimes suffer a life-changing injury, as he found himself impaled on a piece of rebar, while dozens of walkers surrounded him from all ends.

This week, it's the episode we've all been waiting for - or perhaps dreading, depending on your stance - as the time comes to bid farewell to the beloved protagonist of the show. But how did it all go down? Well, it's a tear-jerking one, that's for sure.

Rick manages to escape from his life-altering predicament, refusing to become a piece of meat for the infected to chew upon.

While much of What Comes After deals with Andrew Lincoln's departure, the episode also spends quite a lot of time setting up the future. Maggie finally arrives at Alexandria to sort things out with Negan once and for all, and Anne reaches her destination.

We were prepared for What Comes After to forever change the face of The Walking Dead, but what we weren't expecting was for the show to deliver one of its strongest outings since the fourth season, ultimately reminding us why we first fell in love with the series.
