Westworld: 31 WTF Moments From Season 1

These violent delights have violent ends, and are also pretty f**king weird.

When thinking of WTF moments for Westworld's debut run, it's easy to just think of the entire season as being one. HBO's new hit is built on these, a huge WTF moment wrapped in an enigma trapped in a maze that's really a child's toy.

It has all the hallmarks of a HBO series - high-production values, a great cast, the obligatory sex and violence - and puts it within a sci-fi/Western mashup. Over ten-and-a-half hours it took over our screens and all TV discussion; from Reddit to Twitter to office water coolers, this was the show people were talking about, with an endless loop of theorising.

It delivered on most of these in an extra-long, action-packed finale, and along the way took us on a dizzying journey through the Wild West and into the depths of A.I., humankind, and consciousness. It delivered spectacle, twists, turns, and, of course, all of these WTF moments. (Spoilers, obviously.)

It's strange now to think back to the Westworld pilot, given how much things expanded and unravelled over the course of the season.

Back then, though, even before the theories about multiple timelines and William being the Man in Black, it was a leap into the unknown - and a slightly confusing one.

We watched as a storyline played out, and then - without prior warning - started to repeat itself. Obviously this became a commonality and was quickly accepted as part of the show, but the first time it happens totally throws you off.

NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
