Benedict Cumberbatch Sherlock
BBC

It's been a while since we've had a brand-new episode of Sherlock, but the show's massive popularity has rarely dipped since it first aired all the way back in 2010.

Launching the mainstream career of Benedict Cumberbatch and sending him and co-star Martin Freeman blasting through the gates of Hollywood, the show was almost an overnight hit, lauded for its creative editing, snappy dialogue, strong performances, and modern reinvention of the Sherlock Holmes mythos.

It also managed to strike a chord with pop-culture lovers around the world, on a level that most shows can only dream of hitting. The Sherlock subreddit has over 100,000 subscribers and is still insanely active to this day, and the desire for a fifth season has only increased in the years since the complex, calculated detective's last outing.

Unfortunately though, it doesn't look like we'll be getting another series (or one-off special) in the near future, but since we may now have a complete era of Sherlock to look back on, it's the perfect time to assess your knowledge of the show as a whole.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
