It's taken over a year and a half to get here, but on Saturday, September 10th, Phil "CM Punk" Brooks will finally step inside the octagon for his long-awaited UFC debut.

After walking away from WWE in early 2014, Punk signed on with the premiere mixed martial arts promotion in the world for what most people assumed was nothing more than a quick cash grab on the part of both Punk and his new employers.

The prospect of seeing the former WWE champion in the cage is an intriguing one for both MMA and pro wrestling fans. Those who've supported Punk throughout his sports entertainment career are interested to see if he can hang within the world of unscripted combat, while the UFC purists are anxiously hoping to see the outspoken "fake wrestler" get beaten badly.

For his part, the usually brash and arrogant Punk has managed to remain uncharacteristically modest throughout the majority of this process, downplaying the drama aspect and showing rare flashes of humility when discussing his inexperience and limitations. But in a recent interview with TMZ Sports, Brooks began to open up a little bit and even went so far as to guarantee he'll walk out of the octagon with a victory in his first fight.

After being asked how he responds to critics ("Who f*cking cares?") and if he'll use any wrestling moves in his fight ("If the opportunity presents itself you never know what you'll see"), Punk says his biggest strengths are his chin and his heart.

In regards to how his UFC debut will compare to his first WWE appearance, he says:

"Well, I'm going to win. I did that in WWE. The live crowd in Cleveland, those who are cheering for me are going to be super, super happy and I think those who initially start maybe booing me, by the end of the fight I think they're going to be on their feet cheering my name."

That's the most confidence we've seen from Punk since the bout was announced, and whether you're an MMA fan looking forward to seeing him get pounded or a wrestling supporter hoping he makes a positive impact in his first scrap in the cage, there's no denying this fight is going to be one to watch.
