10 "Major" Wrestling Promotions That Never Got Off The Ground

8. X Wrestling Federation

Possibly holding the distinction of having the worst name of any company on this list, the X Wrestling Federation (also known by the even lamer appellation of "Xcitement Wrestling Federation") is most famous for the fact that it held its first set of tapings at Universal Studios' soundstage, where WCW previously held shows and where TNA would eventually hold all of their events.

Beyond that, the XWF's claim to fame was that it boasted a talent roster that was half has-been, half not-yet-there - I'm not sure if there was another promotion in history, let alone in 2001, that was able to count both Greg Valentine and AJ Styles among its active stars, and other grapplers included Jimmy Snuka, Jr. (later WWE's Deuce), Carly Colon, Jr. (Carlito), Buff Bagwell, and Marc Mero. In fact, Rena "Sable" Mero was the group's heel authority figure

Despite all the name talent, the shelf life for the promotion was quite short. By spring of 2002, people stopped attending their shows, and the group folded.
