10 Best Wrestling Referees Ever

2. Charles Robinson

I've already written extensively about Charles Robinson this month, and his position in the annals of wrestling history is pretty much assured.

Mike Chioda may be the senior referee in WWE today, but to many people Charles Robinson is the face of modern day WWE officiating.

He's taken charge of some of the greatest matches ever, including three of Shawn Michaels' best at WrestleMania (XIX vs. Jericho, XXIV vs. Flair, XXVI vs. 'Taker), and was also responsible for the most heart-warming sprint down an aisle since the glory days of the Ultimate Warrior.

One of the great things about Charles Robinson is that he truly sells the action that is going on in the ring at the time. He has said himself that he feels he oversells sometimes, but the importance of a referee being totally invested in the action going on in front of them cannot be overstated.

They need to be anonymous, yes, but they also need to be reacting to dudes and dudettes getting beat up. Pretty much nobody does it better than 'Lil Naitch.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
