10 Biggest Babyfaces Currently In NXT

Full Sail University is known for being quite a particular crowd, and getting wrestlers over in their roles as heels or faces in NXT isn't always the easiest task.

In the early days of the brand, Bo Dallas eventually received such overwhelming rejection for his happy-go-lucky character that he became the promotion's top villain once he was allowed to turn, such was his unpopularity. The occasional unruliness of the NXT fans can still be seen in how they will refuse to cheer for babyfaces such as Aliyah under her reinvented cat-like gimmick.

The other side of this coin, however, is that those faces who do get cheered will find themselves the subject of absolute devotion from the NXT crowd. Previous years have shown that the adoration for super over babyfaces like Sami Zayn and Shinsuke Nakamura will be a constant throughout their runs at Full Sail and carry over seamlessly onto the main roster.

Today's NXT doesn't quite have a Zayn, Nakamura or Bálor type figure; a performer so universally liked by the crowd that they become the indisputable leader of the brand. But neither is NXT short on likeable performers, and there are plenty of wrestlers within the promotion who are either already the focus of fan worship or are likely to become so very, very soon.

A catchy theme can go a long way to endearing a wrestler to the crowd, and there're very few as catchy as the squeaking horns and thumping bass of No Way Jose's entrance music. Being an always smiling, always dancing midcard face is a pretty familiar character in WWE, but Jose sells it with more enthusiasm and vigour than many who have come before him, and crucially, he has the actual wrestling credential to carry his crowd support over once the music stops.

The positivity that is a hallmark of No Way Jose's gimmick is well exhibited throughout the superstar's performance, from his physicality and facial expressions to the way he delivers his promos. Importantly, though, Jose is still given the scope and the occasional gravitas to be treated as a legitimate competitor rather than just as an enjoyable goof.

Embroiling himself in the feud with Sanity is a solid step to getting him even further over, especially because the ongoing quest to defeat the dastardly faction involves aligning himself with other beloved stars of the brand. A few smart booking decisions and a more fleshed out character could see No Way Jose elevated to an even more popular figure, but for now he still has a solid base with which to maintain his popularity.
