10 Burning Questions For WWE Raw (Oct 3)
How will Raw overcome historically bad ratings? Hint: the answer is not 'Ashton Kutcher.'
So, how about Raw last week? That was some show… if you’re
into that flaming hot garbage sort of thing.
Sorry if you thought Raw was entertaining as hell last week, but it was barely watchable, with confusing decisions, horrible segments and a mind-bogglingly bad main event throwing the Universal Champion into a meaningless tag match at the last minute. We saw the Raw commissioner neuter the Raw GM she hired, a 25-minute title match end in a double countout, a warning about celebrities on the way, and a singles series end with wacky tag team partners. Because WWE.
It’s been a while since this column has been overly negative toward Raw, giving a fair amount of latitude since the brand split. But last week’s Raw, coupled with a steady slide in show quality and ratings, shows that the writers either aren’t trying hard enough, or just aren’t capable of using all the talented performers at their disposal to their potential.
Can WWE reverse the trend this week? There are plenty of questions that will need to be answered on Raw Monday night, so let’s take a look at some of them…
10. Will ‘That 70s Segment’ Make The List?
As a general rule, celebrities becoming the focus of a wrestling segment is a dicey proposition at best. Sometimes, it can work well, but typically, it’s boring at best or insulting and aggravating at worst.
Former “That 70s Show” stars Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson will show up to plug their new Netflix show (which won’t get a free plug here) and allegedly confront Chris Jericho after he botched their names and made fun of them. And that’s really the point of the whole segment. Expect Y2J to break out the List of Jericho while he and Kevin Owens run down the stars.
This can either be flaming death, or it could be amusing given the involvement of Jericho. Honestly, this wouldn’t even get a fair shake if it wasn’t for how awesome Jericho has been in his recent run. And Owens notably once powerbombed Machine Gun Kelly off the Raw stage, so this could actually be memorable for the right reasons.
