10 Classic WrestleMania Moments (WWE Won’t Ever Brag About)

Roddy Piper's WrestleMania record is a mixed bag of classic matches and not-so-classic regressive behaviour. Much like WWE can't promote that time he used his homophobia to punch the ever-loving sh*t out of Goldust, or that time he blacked up, his refereeing performance at WrestleMania XI has been lost to time. Probably because he treated the I Quit match between Bret Hart and Bob Backlund as top banter.

Perhaps terrified at the prospect of another eight-hour coma of a stipulation bout, like their tedious Submission match at Survivor Series '94, Piper instead opted to amuse himself. Piper spent the entire match rushing over to Hart and Backlund, microphone in hand, as if he was Jeremy Borash carny-ing his heart out at a sparsely attended TNA house show. "What do you say? What do you say?" he screamed, at the mere threat of a wrestling hold. And, since all Hart and Backlund did was exchange submission hold upon submission hold in what for the most part resembled a Stu Hart home video, he repeated this catchphrase constantly. Brilliantly, as Hart locked Backlund in yet another one, Piper asked, very loudly, if Backlund gave up. He then asked Hart, obviously under no pressure himself, who could only corpse in response.

Vince McMahon's forced, annoyed laughter was the sound of a man utterly unamused.
