Maybe WWE should run Saturday pay-per-views more often? The 1991 Royal Rumble may have taken place during the time of tumultuous news events (that WWE was actively exploiting), so perhaps many fans saw the event as a necessary diversion.

The 1991 Rumble did 440,000 buys, a whopping number when one considers that both the 1990 and 1992 shows did 260,000 each. That's quite a spike for one show, and it would be the most buys for any Rumble for eight years.

As an additional note, it's one of three different years (pre-WWE Network) where a Royal Rumble did a better buyrate than the WrestleMania from the same calendar year, as WrestleMania 7 did just 400,000 buys. The other two instances were in 1997 and 2003.
