10 Fascinating WWE SummerSlam 1992 Facts

7. The Texas Tornado Was Supposed To Face Papa Shango

By 1992, Kerry Von Erich's personal demons had him firmly pointed toward oblivion. In February, the Dallas-area icon was arrested for attempting to forge painkiller prescriptions, and Von Erich (already sinking below the line of relevance on WWE's depth chart) vanished from the circuit for the time being. He resurfaced after WrestleMania 8, with little more than just his famous name to offer at that point.

Plans were for Von Erich to wrestle voodoo man Papa Shango at SummerSlam, with "The Texas Tornado" having filmed a promo to hype up the match. However, he would disappear from WWE cards in July of that year, after putting over Kamala on a number of house shows.

Von Erich was officially released from WWE in August 1992. Less than six months later, he was arrested on charges of cocaine possession. After being indicted on those charges one month later (facing both revocation of his probation, and likely jail time as well), Von Erich ended his life with a gunshot to the heart. He was only 33.
