After traveling to Seattle for WrestleMania XIX (which you can read about here), I had the bug and couldnt help but travel to New York to see WrestleMania XX. Id always wanted to go to NYC, so if Seattle was possible then so was The Big Apple. I got my tickets in November 2003 and I was ready to go.
Sometimes you remember really random pieces of information and I can recall that starting in the summer of 2003, they had the WrestleMania XX logo on everything WWE related from the website to t-shirts, you couldnt miss it.
In spring 2003, the company announced the anniversary show would take place in Madison Square Garden and did interviews with Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper to hype it. They both talked about how excited they were to be a part of the first Mania and be there in the same building twenty years later.
In the end, Hogan would leave due to creative differences and Piper would go on HBO and talk about all the wrestlers who died, causing him to get fired so neither of them were actually on the show. Still, I got to see both at 'Mania XIX, so it wasn't so bad.
In March of 2004, I set off for New York. I wasnt staying at The Plaza or expecting Tim Curry to quiz me about my stolen credit card, but I was absolutely buzzed. I had an amazing time at the twentieth anniversary of the Showcase of the Immortals - here are ten fun facts about my trip...
