The rematch.

Kurt Angle forced Shawn Michaels to tap out in the best match at WrestleMania 21. After months of splendid build, the interpromotional dream match delivered in spades, with the two legends offering up a genuine classic for the fans in Los Angeles and the millions watching around the world.

Months later, at Vengeance, they attempted to do it again. This time, there was no real powerful storyline supporting the match, just the simple desire of Michaels to avenge the loss now that Angle was a member of the Raw roster. Once again going on in the middle of the show, the two men had the same desire: to steal the show.

And steal the show they did, weaving another 25-minute thriller. The two started out cautiously enough, trading holds and such before HBK took control with a hip toss, armdrag and stiff knife-edge chops. The action spilled to the floor, where Angle retaliated with a German suplex on the announce table.

From there, Angle controlled the match and focused on Michaels' back, dropping him with some mean-looking suplexes. The Showstopper came back, natch, with his usual routine before dropping Angle with a lovely tornado DDT, countered from an Angle Slam. From then on it was all about trading and countering finishers.

It was Michaels who had the last laugh on this occasion, catching Angle in midair with a little Sweet Chin Music to tie the series 1-1. Quite possibly the best wrestling match in Vengeance's seven-year history.
