10 Greatest WCW Halloween Havoc Matches

6. Steel Cage Match For WCW Championship - Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair (Halloween Havoc 1994)

The arrival of Hulk Hogan to WCW in 1994 set up a rivalry between he and fellow industry icon, "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair. They warred with each other for months before arriving to the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit for a huge WCW Championship bout, to take place inside a steel cage. Treated like the monumental match it was, Mr. T was guest referee. To make matters that much more important, the contest was dubbed a Career vs. Career match. With so much on the line, Hogan and Flair let it all hang out, working a match that was not only Flair's best in nearly a year but Hogan's best in the last five. The Hulkster was motivated, the story was strong and the match benefited exponentially as a result. As anyone with half a mind for pro wrestling could guess, Hogan brought Flair's legendary career to an end (for a month or so) with the big leg drop. It can be argued that the match between Hogan and Flair was the victim of overbooking and, to an extent, that is a valid argument. Interference from Sting, Sherri and a masked assailant threatened to bring down the quality of the match and turn the entire ordeal into a mess of massive proportions. Thankfully, every bit of interference was carried out to perfection and added to the overall production. By the time Hogan hit the legdrop, fans were convinced that each competitor had given everything they had and that the better man had won. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x22dfx_hulk-hogan-vs-ric-flair-hh94-part-o_sport Perhaps the legacy of the match would have been enhanced had the match stipulation been enforced more than it ultimately was but that is a minor quip in an otherwise excellent championship clash.
