10 Hidden Times WWE Stars Broke Character

Triple H and CM Punk drop the act, The Rock thanks Mankind and Roman Reigns gets the giggles

Sami Zayn's insertion into The Bloodline in 2022 was a multifariously brilliant move on WWE's part, and not necessarily for all the reasons those within the company would have expected.

An outsider butting in on Samoan family business, Zayn was suffering the humiliation of a loss to Johnny Knoxville at WrestleMania 38, and still harbouring conspiracy theories against WWE at large. He was an irritant to Roman Reigns until he could be used and abused by 'The Tribal Chief' as part of his continued manipulation of The Usos and tyrannical hold over the WWE Championship.

In kayfabe, anyway.

In real life, he was a valuable addition to a tired act, breaking new ground creatively and generating lived-in responses from all the individual characters. Jimmy Uso liked his patter, which Jey couldn't sanction because he'd never been permitted to actually enjoy life in The Bloodline. Zayn was skipping the queue with Roman in his mind, until he proved his worth. At this point, Jey - the hero lurking within from the beginning - became his biggest backer, with their relationship carrying the most depth of any in the stable.

None of it mattered when they were out there squashing every last laugh back into their bodies when Zayn uttered "Ucey" and Roman Reigns doubled down with "Sami Uso". The biggest story in wrestling joyously hung in the balance thanks to fits of giggles from the biggest stars. They were anything but hidden.

10. Snake Charmer

It took the artist formerly known as Dean Ambrose to leave WWE to find the type of pro wrestling that really made him smile on a regular basis, but one of the most serious men in the game couldn't hide his joy when stuck on the wrong end of a Hall Of Famer's legendary attack.

The January 6th 2014 edition of Monday Night Raw had taken on the "Old School" theme, welcoming back various legendary names and old aesthetics to bring some ratings-grabbing nostalgia to a pre-Royal Rumble flagship edition of the show. When it looked as though The Shield might have had the measure of CM Punk, the stage was very literally set former company favourites New Age Outlaws and Jake 'The Snake' Roberts to tip the scales and send 'The Hounds Of Justice' packing.

Well, two of them. Ambrose was the victim of the night, and had the privilege of suffering the nightmare fate - he had the snake dropped on his face, but was simply too thrilled to sell it as anything other than a young wrestling fan-turned-star ticking something substantial off his bucket list.
