The WWE Championship is the most prestigious prize in all of sports-entertainment. Since 1963, the best and brightest Superstars have held the gold, serving as the top attraction in World Wrestling Entertainment. "Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers was the first and John Cena is the latest but in between, there have been several industry giants who have laid claim to the belt. Whether it was Hulk Hogan or Randy Savage, Bret Hart or Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin or The Rock, anyone who is anyone in the professional wrestling industry has, at one time or another, strapped the gold around their waist. It is the symbol of excellence, the validation of one's hard work and the universally recognized stamp of approval from Vince McMahon. Winning that title, regardless of the era, means you have made it. With such a rich history, there are sure to be several instances of champions who became infamous for one reason or another. Some are backstage politicians whose exploits behind the scenes are as famous as their accomplishments between the ropes. Others achieved notoriety for ending historic reigns while still others had no business holding the title in the first place. For these men, infamy replaced respect and notoriety.
