In our first example of a big win helping propel someone's career, we have to cast our mind backs to the dark days of Triple H's reign of terror with the World Heavyweight Championship.

Between 2002 and 2005, Triple H had a death grip on the title belt and the main event scene on Monday Night Raw. It seemed like nobody could buy a win over The Game, which made a young star's victory against him seem all the more shocking.

Shelton Benjamin had been competing in great tag team matches alongside Charlie Haas on SmackDown, holding their tag titles a number of times.

Benjamin was drafted to Raw in 2004 and got himself put into a match with Triple H. Through countless interference from Evolution, Benjamin got beaten up and worked over by the veteran heel, but, with a little help from World Heavyweight Champion, Chris Benoit, Benjamin was able to roll Triple H up and score an absolutely phenomenal win.

The crowd erupted when Benjamin pinned The Game, because literally nobody saw it coming. Benjamin was still a relatively new performer in the singles division, so to get a win over one of the biggest names in the company was absolutely fundamental in making him the solid upper-midcard act he became in the mid-2000s.

Multiple title reigns and big moments followed for Shelton and it can all be traced back to this one big win over Triple H.
