10 Most Unlikely WWE World Champions Ever

Just how did these guys come to win the world title?

Generally speaking, there's this idea that WWE enjoy disregarding the opinions of pro wrestling fans. This all stems from a lethal combination of internet chatter, fan perception and - admittedly - the occasional actions of the company themselves, who sometimes seem strong-armed into pushing wrestlers into top positions, despite their own reservations about said wrestler's ability to lead the line. So, who are the 10 most unlikely World Champions in WWE history? Going further, what does that statement even mean, 'unlikely'? This article won't set out to claim any of the entries were ill-deserving of their respective title reign(s), but will instead look at why each championship victory came about, discuss the time period in WWE it happened, and why it's fit to be deemed as unlikely. Being honest, not all of the choices here will be popular, and will likely stir debate amongst wrestling fans as to exactly why they're included. Again, the aim here isn't to detract from any of the performers themselves, but is instead a strong indication that fan opinion and the reaction of the audience is something WWE take notice of. After all, it's surely in Vince McMahon's best interests to give his customers what they want - if the people wish to see a certain Superstar at the top of the tree, why not give them it? The crucial caveat to that argument is that often the fans don't really know what they want. People can be fickle, what is heralded as right one moment can be criticised as asinine the next. We've all been guilty of it, but WWE have also been guilty of forcing certain performers down our collective throats.
