10 Second Generation Wrestlers That Should Have Known Better
1. David Benoit
It's impossible to speculate on David Benoit's day-to-day mindset without having personally experienced what must have been unthinkable trauma following his father's double-murder/suicide in June 2007.
Losing a step-brother and mother as well as his Dad, David alongside sister Megan were the forgotten victims of the 'Wolverine's heinous crimes. Children from Benoit's first marriage, they will grow up without their father but forever exposed to his last actions on that tragic weekend.
David has paid tribute to some of Benoit's famous matches on social media over the years, but what's more surprising is his apparent decision to get into the industry himself.
He has experienced several false starts in his efforts, allegedly enrolling in Lance Storm's wrestling school without ever attending. He almost wrestled a match for Calgary's Hart Legacy Wrestling in 2014, partnering with Chavo Guerrero in a novelty tag match, but the ill-conceived idea was thankfully cancelled when Chris Jericho contacted the promotion insisting it be called off.
Wrestling consumed Chris Benoit, he admitted as much in documentaries and interviews. Assessments of his frazzled body and brain bore the brunt of his obsession and were considered key factors in the shocking crime. That David would want to take part in an industry that took over his father in such a way is somewhat understandable and yet deeply flawed.
Due to his lineage, he has almost no chance of ever appearing in WWE even if he somehow made it to that level. Whilst a name can be easily changed, a face cannot, and the incredible likeness he shares with his late father is the ultimate blocker on wrestling ever being a promising career move.
